Postdoctoral Fellowships in Biomedical InformaticsApplications are now being accepted for three postdoctoral research fellowship positions at the University of Missouri - Columbia (MU). These positions are funded through a grant from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) as additional fellowships beyond our current 9 predoctoral fellows. Since the funding for these is through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the postdoctoral fellowships will be limited to 2 years duration, but depending on future funding there may be additional opportunities. The goal of the MU biomedical informatics training program is to provide strong training in theory and methodology that will prepare fellows to assume leadership roles in interdisciplinary research teams working on a broad range of important problems in healthcare, bioinformatics, and computational biology. In particular, preferred applicants will have training, experience, or interest in the areas of database development, security systems, research and healthcare communications, health outcomes research, or image and information retrieval, storage, and analysis. Each fellow will be teamed with one or more mentors and pursue research that will further facilitate clinical and translational science. Candidates must hold a terminal degree in their field (PhD, MD, DVM, DDS, or equivalent) and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Successful candidates will be offered the NLM specified stipend ($37,368 to $51,550, based on years of experience), medical insurance, $2000 per year in travel support and tuition and fees for any courses taken at MU. Additional research-related expenses will also be covered. NLM trainees are exempt from NRSA payback requirements. For MD, DVM, DDSs, internship/residency counts as qualifying experience. To apply, send a cover letter with contact information for 3 references, curriculum vitae, and a statement of research interests to Dr. Charles W. Caldwell (caldwellc@health.missouri.edu). The earliest start date is July 1, 2009. These recruitments will remain open until the positions are filled. The University of Missouri is an equal opportunity employer. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply. |
