Dr. Lanis Hicks Assumes Interim Chair Role
Lanis Hicks, PhD, became interim chair of HMI effective Dec. 1. She succeeds Grant Savage, PhD, who is leaving to join the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Dean Churchill has organized a committee that is conducting a national search for a permanent department chair.
Dr. Hicks joined our faculty 30 years ago and has served as a professor and associate chair for the department. She is an economist whose research has focused on rural health, workforce requirements, the cost effectiveness of health care delivery technologies, and evaluating cost and quality measurements in health care settings. Her studies have been funded by such agencies as the National Institutes of Health, Health Resources and Services Administration, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and National Library of Medicine.
Dr. Savage will begin his position as a tenured professor at the UAB School of Business in January. He will co-direct UAB's Healthcare Leadership Academy, oversee a new research center and have secondary faculty appointments in the schools of medicine and public health. He will also serve as a senior fellow at UAB's Lister Hill Center for Health Policy.
Please join us in thanking Dr. Savage for his service to MU and in supporting Dr. Hicks as we continue to advance health management and informatics at our university.
