Eduardo J. Simoes, MD, Appointed Chair of HMI

I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Eduardo J. Simoes, MD, as chair of the University of Missouri School of Medicine Department of Health Management and Informatics. Currently a director with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Simoes will arrive at MU by Sept. 26 to lead the department and serve as the Health Management and Informatics Alumni Distinguished Professor.
Dr. Simoes has served as director of the Prevention Research Centers Program Office in the CDC's Division of Adult and Community Health since 2003. He was previously chief epidemiologist for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, where he served from 1996 to 2003. He has also held part-time faculty appointments with Saint Louis University and the MU School of Medicine.
A native of Brazil, Dr. Simoes received a medical degree from the University of Pernambuco. He then received a master's degree in community health and diploma in hygiene and tropical medicine from the University of London, as well as a master's degree in public health from Emory University.
Dr. Simoes will succeed Lanis Hicks, PhD, as leader of our Department of Health Management and Informatics. Please join me in thanking her and supporting Dr. Simoes on his new appointment at the University of Missouri.
