HMI Alumni Association Bestows Honors

The University of Missouri Health Management and Informatics Alumni Association honored two alumni at a reception in conjunction with the American College of Healthcare Executives Annual Congress in Chicago, Illinois, on March 20, 2012. John Lloyd (MHA, 1970) received only the second Lifetime Achievement Award to be given by the association. Justin Garry (MHA, 2006) received the Early Careerist Award.

Lloyd is the President & CEO of the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) based in Arlington, Virginia. Prior to joining CAHME, he served as staff, Vice President, Executive Vice President President & CEO and finally Vice Chair of Witt/Kieffer, Ford, Hadelman & Lloyd, a top ten United States executive search firm. Lloyd is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a past President of the HMI Alumni Association. His volunteer activities include serving on the University of Missouri Medical Alliance Board of Directors; the Board of Directors of the Circus World Museum in Baraboo, Wisconsin; and past Chairman of the Association of Executive Search Consultants.

In honoring Lloyd, the association noted that "John has devoted his career to raising the quality of executive leadership in the healthcare industry and the embedding of ethical standards in professional career evaluation. John has also been a tireless advocate for the University of Missouri and the HMI Department, supporting student mentorship and advancement." Lloyd can be contacted at JLoyd@cahme.org.

Garry is the Manager of the Avera Medical Group Neurosurgery Clinic in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In this role he oversees everything from facility remodeling to patient recall systems to physician recruitment. In addition to his healthcare work, he volunteers his time to with the Sioux Falls Christian High School Football Team, Junior Achievement, and Teens Encounter Christ. Garry also volunteers his time to mentor multiple HMI graduate students.

Garry's nomination noted his dedication and optimism: "He simply is a positive individual with strong faith-based values and morals. He shares this genuine optimism and sincere spiritual approach to life with others through community volunteering and his work with the HMI Alumni Association."
