Curriculum Vitae

Overview: Suzanne Austin Boren, PhD, MHA is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Management and Informatics, School of Medicine. Her research interests include the appropriate use of information technology to facilitate evidence-based, self-care behavior change in chronic illness as well as the evaluation of simulation in the education and training of health care professionals. She has co-authored numerous articles in the field of health informatics on decision support technologies including peer-comparison feedback, reminders, telemedicine/distance technologies, computerized information services, and interactive computerized patient education/management of chronic illness. Two of her articles have been recognized by the Yearbook of the International Medical Informatics Association (in 1997 and 2006) as among the best medical informatics studies over the preceding year. In 2006, one of her articles was nominated for the AMIA Distinguished Paper Award. In July 2007, she was a Fellow at the NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Science Research's Summer Institute on the Design and Conduct of Randomized Clinical Trials Involving Behavioral Interventions. She has been a member and the chair of the Research Committee of the American Association of Diabetes Educators. She is an editorial board member of the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology (DST), and co-editor of the diabetes informatics section of DST.

Research Areas: Consumer Health Informatics, Decision Support, Health Literacy and Numeracy, Information Interventions for Persons with Chronic Illnesses, Use of Simulation in the Education of Health Care Professionals
