HMI Faculty: Grant Savage, PhD
Dr. Savage is chair the Department of Health Management and Informatics at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine and MU's Health Management and Informatics Alumni Distinguished Professor. Since August 1, 2007, Dr. Savage has lead the medical school's nationally ranked management program and one of the first programs to use information technology to improve health care. The programs form a department that supports MU's Health Care Quality, Health Policy, Health Ethics, and Health and Behavioral Risk Research centers.
Dr. Savage served as a faculty member at the University of Maine ('82-'83), Texas Tech University ('83-'98), and University of Alabama ('99-'07), where he held an endowed chair in health management. He directed the PhD and MBA Programs in Health Organization Management and was co-chair of the Health Organization Management Department at Texas Tech. He has also been a visiting scholar in four other countries.
Dr. Savage has published his research in leading communication, health care, and management journals, and he is a co-founding editor of Advances in Health Care Management. He is a board member for the Association of University Programs in Health Administration and a member of several similar professional organizations. Dr. Savage received doctorate and master's degrees in communication theory from Ohio State University. He received a bachelor's degree in communication in his home state at the University of Connecticut.
