External Scholarship Opportunities

All students - executive, residential, and international - may wish to apply for external scholarships from professional organizations.

For Students Entering the First Year of the Master's Degree

Corris Boyd Scholars Program Recipient awarded $40,000 scholarship toward tuition and other expenses at AUPHA full-member graduate school program. At time of award, applicants must have applied and been accepted to AUPHA full master's degree program; be a US citizen or permanent resident; be a student of color (African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American, Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, Latino/Hispanic, Multiracial); have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Heartland Health Lowell C. Kruse Healthy Choices. Healthy Lives. Scholarship $10,000 award for residents of Heartland Health region. Scholarship may be used any time while student is enrolled. Applicants must be first year graduate students and permanent residents of or originate from Heartland Health service region: IN MISSOURI: Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Caldwell, Carroll, Clay*, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway, Platte, and Worth; IN IOWA: Decatur, Fremont, Page, Ringgold, and Taylor; IN KANSAS: Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, and Nemaha; and IN NEBRASKA: Nemaha and Richardson. (*Clay County added). Student must agree to complete paid internship at Heartland Health or non-profit agency in St. Joseph, MO. Applications due mid-June.

For Students Entering the First or Second Year of the Master's Degree

American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMP) Scholarships: part of Medical Group Management Association (MGMA). Numerous scholarships available - see link above for specific requirements. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000. Applications posted on MGMA website in April; due June 1

Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Foundation Scholarships: Student must be a HIMSS student member. $5,000 plus all-expense paid trip to Awards Banquet at annual HIMSS Conference and Exhibition. Applications open mid-August and are due mid-October - see HIMSS website for details.

Institute for Diversity in Health Management (affiliate of American Hospital Association): Transamerica Retirement Solutions ($5,000) and Cathy L. Brock Memorial Scholarship ($1,000). Applicants for Transamerica scholarship must demonstrate financial aid and a commitment to community service, and must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. For Cathy L. Brock scholarship, applicants must represent ethnically diverse cultural backgrounds, demonstrate an interest or commitment to a career in finance, demonstrate financial need and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applications for both scholarships open at the beginning of October and are due early January - see IDHM website for details.

National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE): Haynes Rice Award; Florence Gaynor Award (for women only); Ellis Bonner Award (for non-traditional students only). Student must be a NAHSE member. All awards are $2,500. Applications due mid-May - see NAHSE website for details.

Richard P Covert, PhD, LFHIMSS Scholarship for Management Systems: Student must be a HIMSS student member. For those focused on Management Engineering. $5,000 plus all-expense paid trip to Awards Banquet at annual HIMSS Conference and Exhibition. For Students Entering the Second Year of the Master's Degree

ACHE Albert W. Dent Scholarship: For minority students only. Student must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen and be able to demonstrate financial need; preference given to Student Associates of ACHE; $5,000 award. Applications open January 1 and are due March 31. See ACHE website for details.

ACHE Foster McGaw Scholarship: Student must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen and be able to demonstrate financial need; preference given to Student Associates of ACHE; $5,000 award. Applications open January 1 and are due March 31. See ACHE website for details.

AUPHA Winston Health Policy Scholarship: Student must be a U.S. citizen. Two letters of nomination - one from a faculty member in your degree program and one from a preceptor or employer - are required as part of the application process. Award is $10,000; in the fall, students selected for the scholarship will be hosted at a one-day health policy symposium in Washington, DC. Applications open mid-February and are due mid-April.
